Clark County Fire District 5 was first organized in 1954. Beginning as a volunteer organization, the Fire District began serving the community through one fire station in Orchards, quickly growing to 3 stations including the Heights and St. Johns areas. Prior to a service contract consolidation with the Vancouver Fire Department, the Fire District operated out of 8 strategically located fire stations, employing approximately 80 Fire, EMS, Prevention and support personnel. In 1994, the Fire District entered into a service contract with the City of Vancouver Fire Department to provide emergency and prevention services to the citizens of the Fire District. As a result, all employees, equipment and assets of the Fire District became the property of the City of Vancouver.

Today, Fire District 5 continues to serve the community through their elected officials, the 3 person Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District staff providing Safety & Prevention and community outreach, and the operation of the Northwest Regional Training Center, located in Orchards.
