The fire district supports the Vancouver Fire Department Cadet Program. The mission of the VFD Cadet Program is to provide safe, effective and relevant firefighter training in an environment that emphasizes self-discipline, pride, teamwork, and community service. Students receive training from Lead Instructor Capt. Orbie Scott at the VFD headquarters station each weekday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

"Our cadets are highly motivated to succeed, and we have high expectations for integrity and solid work ethics," he says. Captain Scott and his cadet class were invaluable at the department's Oct. 4 VFD Open House. They will continue to assist with special departmental projects as part of their educational program.
